Mt. SAC Women's Cross Country Takes 3rd Place At State Championships
November, 29, 2011
(Fresno, CA) The Mountie Women's Cross Country Team did not have a single individual medalist (Top 16) at the 2011 California State Cross Country Championships which were held at Woodward Park in Fresno. Without a front runner, they did something that very few teams, if any, have ever done in this predicament... placed in the top 3. The very close team gap of 1:34, (time from first finisher to 5th finisher) at the end of the 5 kilometer course, catapulted the Mounties into the third place, trophy winning slot with 123 points (top 5 runner finish places). Brianna Gonzales (FR, Ontario H.S.) led the Mounties in 19th place with a time of 19:03 and the fifth Mountie finished in 41st place with a time of 19:37.
Congratulations to Head Coach Doug Todd and the Mt. SAC Women's Cross Country Team for an incredible State Trophy Winning Season!
The men's team finished their 2011 in 14th place at the State Championships. Leading the way for the Mounties was Gabriel Ruano (FR, Azusa H.S.) who ran the 4 mile course in 21:08. Incredibly, this was Ruano's first year ever running Cross Country. A former High Jumper, he was converted into a 800 meter runner last track season and this year he has led the Mounties all cross country season.
