

Mt. SAC Men's and Women's Track and Field Place Fourth and Fifth at the California State Championships
San Mateo, CA-The Mt. SAC Men's and Women's Team completed another successful season, finishing in fourth place for men and fifth place for the women with 4 individual state champions. Favorites, Marcus Pope (400M Hurdles), Christine Cortez (1500M) and Lenoore Moreno (10,000 M) all dominated their respective events and captured California State Championships. The surprise of the day for the Mounties came in the Men's Pole Vault where sophomore Eric Adolphus upset a very strong field of pole vaulters to capture the championship. Adolphus bettered his personal best of 15 feet 8 inches twice, jumping 16'02"3/4 to beat a field that included 7 pole vaulters with personal bests above 16 feet. For Cortez this was her second consecutive state championship in the 1500M and she also placed second in the 800M. Moreno also competed in the 5,000M where she placed second.
Other Mounties scoring at the State Championships: Michelle DeGraff (Pole Vault, 5th), Emilio Estrada (110M Hurdles, 6th), John Harris (Long Jump, 3rd: 110M Hurdles, 3rd), Mark Horist (Decathlon, 5th), Emmanuel Jackson (Triple Jump, 5th), Anthony McClendon (High Jump, 8th), Dustin Valdivia (Pole Vault, 5th), Sean Whitesitt (3000M Steeplechase, 4th), Secoral Yanez (100M, 5th: 200M, 4th).

Mt. SAC Men's Track and Field Places Third At The Southern California Championships
The mighty Men's Track and Field Program had a number of suprise performances and narrowly missed taking over the second spot at the Southern California Track and Field Championships held at Mt. SAC. The Mounties were led in the field events and hurdles and scored a total of 84.5 points, to finish 3.5 points behind Moorpark and 43 points behind Riverside. John Harris had a phenomenal day capturing the Long Jump and placing second in the 110M Hurdles. Anthony McClendon was the other individual champion, capturing the high jump while 4 other Mounties placed second in their respective events: Sean Whitsett-3000M Steeplechase, Marcus Pope-400M Hurdles, Dustin Valdivia-Pole Vault and Mark Horist-Decathlon. Mt. SAC Women's Track and Field Places Fifth At The Southern California Championships
The Women's Track and Field Program had a number of dominating performances and were able to score 56 points to place 5th at the Southern California Track and Field Championships held here at Mt. SAC. South Coast Conference Athlete of the Year, Christine Cortez, led the way for the Mounties destroying the field in both the 800M and 1500M. Lenore Moreno captured the 10,000M title and placed 5th in the 5,000M, while Secoral Yanez placed second in the 200M and 4th in the 100M. Mt. SAC Men's Track and Field Captures Record Breaking 12th Consecutive Conference Championship
The mighty Men's Track and Field Program continued their dominance of the South Coast Conference Championship by capturing their unprecedented 12th consecutive South Coast Conference Championship. During this span, the Mounties have captured 7 state championships including 6 in a row from 1997 to 2002. Although the team lost it's first community college dual meet in 12 years this season, the team rebounded back with strong depth in the Hammer and Pole Vault where they scored 69 points to easily overtake second place El Camino, 214 to 135.
