Riverside, Calif. - The Panthers of Sacramento City opened up the elimination rounds with a sound 6-1 win over Shasta College. North Pitcher of the Year Amanda Monday (34-4) pitched seven strong innings, giving up just four hits and striking out 9 batters along the way.
Sacramento City wasted no time in jumping all over Shasta (39-15) scoring all of its six runs in the first four innings, including a three run bomb up the left field line by Charlotte Honciano in the top of the third.
As for the Knights, their lone run came in the bottom of the first inning when sophomore Amanda Schuler roped an RBI single up the left-field line, driving in Rebecca Valenzuela. That would be all for Shasta however, as Monday dominated the rest of the way, allowing a runner past second base just once thereafter.
With the win Sacramento City advanced to the second round in the elimination bracket to face Siskiyous who won their first game against Long Beach City College, but dropped their second to Cerritos College. For Shasta, their road ended in the first round of the elimination bracket.
