Softball Slugger, Missy Mendoza, Named May CCCAA State
Athlete of the Month
June 9, 2009Sacramento, CA-The California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) in association with the California Community College Sports Information Association, named Missy Mendoza of Mt. SAC, the CCCAA State Athlete of the Month for May. Mendoza led the Mounties to the 2009 State Softball Championship with her tremendous slugging which included 4 game winning home runs during the championship season. Mendoza nearly hit the homerun cycle with her game winning blasts which included a solo, two 3 run and one grandslam homerun which she accomplished in the State Championship Game. Mounties Capture 2009 California State Championships!
Salinas, CA-For the fourth time this decade, the Mt. SAC Women's Softball Team has captured the California Community College State Championship! Facing a tough uphill battle, the South's third seed proved that odd years are good for the Mounties and that seeds are just numbers. The Mounties faced the North #2 seed, Sacramento City College on Friday defeating them 12-6. Later that evening the Mounties surprised South number 1 seed, Cypress, 8-7. In the semi-final game on Saturday, the Mounties upset North number 1 seed, Siskiyous 4-3 and in the Sunday, Championship Game, the Mounties easily defeated North number 3 seed, Sierra College, 7-1 to capture the State Championship.
The Mounties placed 5 players on the All-State Tournament Team including Missy Mendoza, who was named the Tournament MVP for her outstanding play which included 3 game winning homeruns and 9 RBI's. Christie Nieto was named Best Hitter, Lisa Hernandez (Pitcher), Stephanie Tingle (Outfield) and Ashlynn Booker (Utility) were also named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Mounties finish the regular season with a record of 44 wins, 11 losses and another State Championship. Congratulations to Head Coach Kelly Ford, her staff and the Mounties!

Mounties Advance To State Championships For the 7 Consecutive Time!
For the seventh consecutive year under Head Coach Kelly Ford, the Mt. SAC Mounties have advanced to the California State Softball Championship. The Mounties are the #3 seed from the South and will face the North #2 seed, Sacramento City College (45-8), Friday at 2:00 pm at the Salinas Sports Complex in Salinas, California. The State Championship Tournament is a double elimination tournament that will feature the following 8 teams: N#1 Siskiyous, N#2 Sacramento City, N#3 Sierra, N#4 Ohlone, S#1 Cypress, S#2 Cerritos, S#3 Mt. SAC and S#4 Riverside.
The Mounties (40-11) defeated Grossmont College in three games, 6-7, 8-4, 8-0, to advance to the final round of eight.

Mounties Advance To Super Regionals
The Mt. SAC Mounties will continue their climb to the State Championships against #7 seed, Grossmont College, this Saturday and Sunday, May 9th and 10th here at Mt. SAC. Second Round Super Regional action is a best of 3 games with the first game to be held on Saturday, May 9th at 7:00 pm, the second game on Sunday, May 10th at 2:00 pm and if needed the third game on Sunday, May 10th at 4:00 pm. The Griffins have a record of 21 wins and 14 losses and were the 2009 Pacific Coast Conference Runner-up. The winner of this best of 3 series will move on to the California State Community College Softball Championships to be held at the Salinas Sports Complex in Salinas, CA.

Mounties Move On To Regional Play-Offs
The Mt. SAC Mounties move on to the Southern California Regional Play-Offs as the #3 seed. The Mounties will face for the third consecutive year in play-off action, Antelope Valley here at home this weekend. First round action is a best of 3 games with the first game to be held on Saturday, May 2 at 7:00 pm, the second game on Sunday, May 3rd at 2:00 pm and if needed the third game on Sunday, May 3rd at 4:00 pm. The Marauders (23-13) captured their 5th consecutive Foothill Conference Championship while the Mounties finished second in the South Coast Conference. In the past three play-off meetings between the Mounties and Marauders, Mt. SAC has won all four contests with a combined score of 19-0. For more information, please contact the Mt. Mounties Post Season Honors
The mighty Mt. SAC Mounties Softball Program once again has earned numerous spots on post season teams. Two players, Christie Nieto and Stephanie Tingle were named to the All-State Team as well as earning first team All-South Coast Conference (SCC) Honors. Ashlynn Booker was named to the All-SoCal Team and All-SCC First Team. Six Mounties were named to the All-SCC First Team and 3 were named to the All-SCC Second Team. Javier and Tingle Make Early Verbal Commitments To 4-Year Universities
Liz Javier and Stephanie Tingle have made early verbal commitments to continue their playing careers at the 4-year university level. Infielder, Javier will join 2008 Big West Conference Champion Long Beach State University (NCAA Division 1) while Catcher Tingle will join NCAA Division II's 18th Ranked, Abilene Christian University.
