Softball Will Play For The Super Regional Championship!
(Cypress, CA) The Mt. SAC Women's Softball Team started the day wiith a tough loss to #1 seed, Cypress, 5-2, but bounced back with a win against #7 seed Glendale, 3-2, to advance to the Super Regional Championships, where they will once again face Cypress. Game time is tomorrow (Sunday) at 12:00 pm, at Cypress College. In this double elimination tournament, the Mounties must defeat two times Cypress in order to win the Super Regional and advance to the State Championships. If they can manage a win, the Mounties will play Cypress again immediately after the first game for the Super Regional Championship.

Mounties Advance One Step Closer To State Championships!
(Walnut, CA) The Mountie Softball Team (35-8) defeated Santa Ana College in three games to advance to the super regional. In the first game the Mounties defeated Santa Ana by a score of 8-4. Winning Pitcher, Ariel Whiteman (SO, Bishop Amat H.S., 9-0) pitched the entire game and held the Dons to 3 hits. Home runs by Codi Arends (SO, Walnut H.S.) and Lauren Moreno (SO, La Mirada H.S.) propelled the Mounties to the win. In the second game, Santa Ana defeated the Mounties 3-5, to force a game 3 where it was all Mt. SAC. The Mounties carried a 7-2 lead into the top of the 7th inning and put an exclamation point on their win, with 7 additional runs, including a grand slam homerun from Devin Vanderhoff (FR, El Modena H.S.). Ariel Whiteman (10-0) continued her undefeated season on the mound, going the distance (7 innings) and striking out 8 Santa Ana players.
The #3 ranked Mounties will move on to the Super Regional (double elimination tournament) where they will also face 3 other formidable opponents including: Cypress College (#2 seed, 38-4), Glendale College (#7 seed, 29-13) and Bakersfield College (#6 seed, 29-13) who they will face first this Friday, at 4:00 pm at Cypress College (Cypress, CA). Mt. SAC currently leads the state with 74 homeruns this season, which is also a new Mt. SAC Softball Record.

The "Big Bang" Lifts Softball Team Over Rival Cerritos In Crucial SCC Match-Up
March 15, 2012
(Walnut, CA) The "Big Bang" heard at the Mountie Softball Stadium on Thursday Afternoon, was the game winning grand slam homerun that gave the Mounties Softball Team (15-3) the big win over conference leader and rival, Cerritos College (17-7). In the bottom of the 7th inning, wIth the score tied 11-11 and bases loaded, Diana Gutierrez (SO, Sonora H.S.) hit the game winning grand slam homerun that sailed well over the center field fence. In their previous meeting, the Falcons defeated the Mounties, 6-12. Although their mercy rule streak of 5 ended, the Mounties (15-3) handed the Falcons their first South Coast Conference loss and which puts the Mounties in a tie for first place in the Conference with Cerritos. The Mounties had a homerun derby of a day with 5 , including Guitierrez's Grand Slam. The team will next host Ventura College this Saturday at 3:00 pm. Due to the strong forcast of rain on Saturday, the game may be postponed or cancelled.

Baseball and Softball Teams Pick Up Big Wins Against El Camino College Compton Educational Center
(Compton, CA) The Mountie Baseball and Softball Teams both picked up big wins, on the road, against El Camino College Compton Education Center (ECCCEC).
The Baseball Team opened a first of three game series and South Coast Conference Play against the Tartars, with a big 14-6 win. Taylor Jimenez (1-0) (SO, Chino H.S.) provided the Mounties with a strong 7 innings pitching performance that included 10 strike outs. Offensively, Marcos Flores (FR, Alta Loma H.S.) lead the Mounties with 4 hits and 3 RBI's, that included 2 doubles and a solo Home Run. Jake Bailey (SO, Charter Oak H.S.) also contributed 3 hits on the day, including a double. The Mounties will next take on ECCCED at home, this Thursday, March 8th at 2:00 pm.
The Softball Team also took on the Tartars and put them away quickly with a mercy rule (game ended in 5 innings) victory of 16-1. Pitcher Natalie Sanchez (FR, Bishop Amat H.S.) struck out 7 in 3 innings of work, followed by Nicole Soltis (SO, Fontana H.S.) who struck out 3 batters in 2 innings of work which gave the Mounties a combined Tartar strikeout total of 10. Diane Guitierrez (SO, Sonora H.S. (lh)) provided the fireworks for the team, with a 2 run homerun and 3 RBI's. Amber Whiteman (FR, Bishop Amat H.S.) and Kimberly Pena (SO, Norco H.S.) eached provided the Mounties with a triple, giving the Mounties a total of 17 hits on the day. The Softall Team will next take on L.A. Harbor College, here at home, on Thursday, March 8th at 3:00 pm. NOTE: THIS IS A NEW GAME TIME!

Softball Prime Rib Feast Fundraiser
January 18, 2012
(Walnut, CA) The Mt. SAC and Diamond Bar Softball Teams have partnered up to present the 2nd Annual Prime Rib Feast Fundraiser which will be held on Saturday, February 11th from 7:00 to 11:00 pm at the Diamond Bar Golf Course (Diamond Bar, CA). Cost is $50 per person and includes either Prime Rib or Chicken Picante with all of the fixings and a non-alcoholic beverage. Along with the feast there will be a no host bar, dancing, raffle, silent and live auctions. Raffle and auction prizes will include signed memorabilia, a softball/baseball clinic with former Dodger Jay Johnstone, phone call from a famous sports star, Martini Party along with many more items. All proceeds will help support the two championship winning softball programs.

National Pro Fastpitch Game To Be Held At Mt. SAC Has Been Cancelled

Help Support Mountie Softball Sensation Mandy Pongs Battle Against Cancer

(Walnut, CA) Former Mountie Softball Sensation Mandy Pongs will be using the same determination and competitiveness that she had on the diamond, as she fights the battle of her life against cancer. The 24 year old Pongs, was recently diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer which required a radical hysterectomy and will require chemotherapy.
The Mt. SAC Softball Program along with the Mt. SAC Football Team will be hosting a "Mandy Pongs Day" at the Mt. SAC Football Teams home game against Bakersfield College, on October 1st, at 6:00 pm. During half time, the team will be collecting donations to help Pongs with the high cost of cancer treatments.  Mounties Softball To Host Worth Fast Pitch Expert Clinic Featuring 3 Time Olympic Gold Medalist Leah O'Brien Amico
(Walnut, CA) The Mt. SAC Softball Program and the Worth Softball Company will be hosting a one day Fast Pitch Expert Clinic at the Mt. SAC Softball Stadium on Saturday, October 15th, 2011 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. The event will feature 3 time Olympic Gold Medalist, Leah O'Brien Amico. Cost is $50 (by October 12th) and $60 at the door.

 Mounties Softball Team Eliminated From The State Championship Play-Offs
(Bakersfield, CA) After defeating College of the Siskiyous on Friday, the Mounties Women’s Softball Team dropped two consecutive games and were eliminated from the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Softball Championships.
The Mounties took on perennial rival and defending state champion, Cypress College (#2 South Seed, Record 41-8) but were shut out with a score of 4-0. The team dropped to the lower bracket to face number one North Seed, San Joaquin Delta College (Record 42-1) with the winning team moving on to the championship game against Cypress and the losing team being eliminated.
Although the Mounties held Delta College to just one hit over the first 4 innings, the Mustangs broke free in the fifth inning scoring 4 runs against the Mounties. With a score of 6-2, in the top of the seventh inning, the Mounties closed the gap with two solo home runs from Ashlyn Booker (SO, Bloomington H.S.) and Alyssa Gonzalez (FR, Rosary H.S.), but it was not enough as the Mustangs closed the book on the Mounties by striking out the last two batters to win, 6-4.
Cya Neal (SO, California H.S.), Tarra Smith (SO, Covina H.S.) and Ashlyn Booker were all named to the All-State Championship Tournament Team.
The Mounties finish the season with a record of 42-6 and as South Coast Conference and Southern California Champions. Congratulations to Head Coach Kelly Ford, her staff and players for another outstanding season.

 Softball Team Defeats College of the Siskiyous in the CCCAA State Championships Play-Offs
(Bakersfield, CA) The Mounties Women’s Softball Team is one step closer to capturing the 2011 State Championships after defeating the College of the Siskiyous (#2 North Seed, Record 39-7) 10-9 in the first round of the California Community College Athletic Association State Softball Championships in Bakersfield. The Mounties will take on perennial rival, Cypress College (#2 South Seed, Record 40-8) tomorrow at 5:30 pm in Game 4. Cypress defeated previously undefeated and number one North Seed, San Joaquin Delta College (Record 42-1). The loser of Game 4, will play the winner of the Siskiyous and San Joaquin Delta game, while the winner will until Sunday at 12 noon to play the winner of the game 4 loser and winner of the Siskiyous/San Joaquin Delta game.
Winning pitcher for the Mounties was Diana Rugamas (FR, Chino Hills H.S.) who pitched two scoreless and hitless innings for the Mounties in the 5th and 6th inning. Tara Smith (SO, Covina H.S.) hit the game winning homerun in the bottom of the sixth inning.

 Alexa Limon Named South Coast Conference Don MacKenzie Scholarship Award Winner
(Walnut, CA) Alexa Limon a member of the 2011 Mt. SAC Women's Softball Program was named the 2011 South Coast Conference (SCC) Don MacKenzie Scholarship Award Winner. Limon will receive a $500 scholarship award presented by the SCC in memory of Don MacKenzie, the long time SCC Commissioner (1979-2004).
Limon helped lead the Mounties to the State Championships this season. Limon, a sophomore out of Sonora High School in La Habra has had a phenomenal season on the mound. This season she has pitched in 29 games and has an ERA of 2.29 with 134 strikoutes and a record of 19 wins and 3 losses.
The $500 scholarship is presented each year to an SCC Student/Athlete who exhibits strong academics and exceptional athletic performance on the field of play. In some cases, the student/athlete chosen is one who has overcome life obstacles or has shown community involvement.

 Mt. SAC Women's Softball Captures 2011 SoCal Super Regional And Advances to the State Championships
(Walnut, CA) For the tenth straight year, the Mt. SAC Women's Softball Team has qualified for the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Women's Softball Championships. The Mounties did it by capturing the South A Super Regional at home this past weekend.
In the first round of the 4-team Super Regional, the Mounties defeated #8 seed Saddleback College, 8-3. In the second round, the team defeated conference rival Cerritos College (#4 seed) 11-0 and in the Super Regional Championship they once again faced Cerritos College, where the defeated the Falcons 9-5 to take the Super Regional and earn a berth to the State Championships.
The Mounties will now head off to the CCCAA State Softball Championships which will be held this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, May 20-22 at Bakersfield College (Bakersfield, CA). They have received the #1 South Seed and will vie for their 5th State Championship ('03, '05', '07, '09). Stading in their way will be 4 teams including #2 South Seed, Cypress College (39-8), #2 North Seed, College of the Siskiyous (39-6) and #1 North Seed, San Joaquin Delta College (42-0). In the first round, the Mounties will face the College of the Siskiyous at 8:00 pm.

 Mounties Cruise By Chaffey In First Round Of Play-Offs, Move On To Super Regional At Home
(Walnut, CA) The Mt. SAC Women's Softball Team (record 38-4, #1 seed) cruised by visiting Chaffey College, mercying the Panthers in the fifth inning of both games with scores of 15-0, 10-0. In the first game on Saturday, Lauren Moreno (FR, La Mirada H.S.) had the hot bat going 3 for 3 with 5 RBI's and scoring a run. In the second game it was NFCA All-American Alyssa Gonzales (FR, Rosary H.S.) with the hot bat going 4 for 4 with 5 RBI's and 3 runs scored.
The Mounties will now head on to the Super Regional which will be held this weekend at Mt. SAC. The Super Regional will also feature #8 Saddleback College (22-13), #4 Cerritos College (32-10) and #5 Palomar College (26-11). The Mounties will first take on Saddleback on Friday, May 13th at 5:30 pm. The winner of that game will play the winner of the Cerritos/Palomar Game on Saturday, May 14th at 5:30 pm.  Mounties Receive #1 Seed In Southern California Play-Offs
(Walnut, CA) The Mt. SAC Women's Softball Team (record 36-4) received the #1 seed for the Southern California Community College Softball Championships. The team will take on Chaffey College (record 18-18) the #16 seed in the first round this Saturday and Sunday in a best out of three series here at the Mt. SAC Softball Stadium. First game will be held on May 7th at 7:00 pm. The second game will be held on May 8th at 2:00 pm and if needed the 3rd game will directly follow the second game at 4:00 pm.
If the Mounties can win they will advance to the second round of play-offs which will be at home the following weekend on May 14th and 15th.

 Ashlynn Booker, Alyssa Gonzales And Cya Neal Earn NFCA Honors.
(Walnut, CA) Congratulations to sophomore Ashlyn Booker (Bloomington H.S./3B, DP, 1B), freshman Alyssa Gonzales (Rosary H.S./UT, DP) and sophomore Cya Neal (California H.S./2B) who were named to the National Fast Pitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-American Team. Booker and Gonzales were also named to the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) All-State Softball Team. For the 2011 season, Booker batted an amazing .525 with 19 homeruns, 44 RBI's and a slugging percentage of 1.227, while Gonzales batted .446 with 9 homeruns and 37 RBI’s. Defensively both women were outstanding out in field with 92 put outs for Booker and 70 for Gonzales. Neal was also named to the CCCAA All-SoCal Softball Team. Neal batted .417 with 56 hits and 28 stolen bases.

 Mt. SAC Softball Captures 2011 South Coast Conference Championship
(Walnut, CA) The Mt. SAC Women's Softball Team captured the 2011 South Coast Conference Championship by defeating conference rival, Cerritos, 9-0. Today's conference championship deciding game was supposed to be a close match-up between two teams who each split a win against each other earlier this season. In the end, it was a fantastic shut-out performance by pitcher, Alexa Limon (SO, Sonora H.S.), the fantastic batting by the entire Mt. SAC Team and a mercy rule game ending 2 run homerun in the bottom of the 6th inning by Alyssa Gonzales (FR, Rosary H.S.) that shot down the Falcons hope for a SCC Championship.
Congratulations to Head Coach Kelly Ford who captured her 7th SCC Championship. The Mounties finish the regular season with a record of 36-4 (19-2 in Conference) and will likely host a Regional Championship Game on Saturday and Sunday, May 7-8.

The Mounties will be hosting Antelope Valley College (AVC) and College of the Canyons on Saturday in double-header action. The first game against AVC will be at 4pm. In between games (approx. 5:45pm), the Mounties will be hosting an Easter egg hunt for children up to 8 years old. The team will be hiding eggs all around the field so bring your Easter baskets. The second game will begin right after the Easter egg hunt at approximately 6pm.
Admission to the game is $3 for adults. Children 12 and under, staff and students w/ID are free.

Sophomore Ashlyn Booker (Bloomington H.S., Fontana) broke the Mt. SAC Single Season Homerun Record of 15 homeruns, by pounding 2, two-run homeruns in the Mounties, 10-1. victory over L.A. Harbor College at home. Booker drove her first homerun in the bottom of the second inning to break the record with 16 and then hit her second one in the bottom of the 4th inning to set the record at 17. The previous record was held by 2007 All-State Player of the Year, Francesca Gonzales (Shortstop) who set the record at 15 in 2007. Congratulations to Ashlyn Booker for becoming Mt. SAC's All=Time Single Season Homerun Hitter! Softball swinging & pitching to "strike out" cancer
On Tuesday, April 19th, while hosting LA Harbor College, the Mt. SAC Softball team will be sponsoring a "strike out" cancer day. All spectators are invited to wear pink to the game and may make a donation to help support Breast Cancer Awareness. The Mounties will also be hosting several Mt. SAC professors as well as the Older Adult Program at Mt. SAC. The game begins at 3:00 pm.

The Mt. SAC Softball team had a 3 day, 4 game road trip up north this past weekend. The trip began Friday, April 8th, with a visit to Santa Barbara City College. The Vaqueros were able to get the only run of the game and the win, 1-0. Saturday began with a 10-0 win against Cuesta College and ended with a 5-0 win against Bakersfield College. On Sunday the Mounties picked up their third win against Ventura College, 2-1, before heading home.
The Mounties will host 2 home games today, Fullerton College at 2:30pm and conference opponent, Pasadena at 5pm.  Softball student athletes ready for the next level

 Softball not fazed after winning streak is broken
(Walnut, CA) The Mt. SAC Softball team suffered it's first conference loss of the season against conference rival Cerritos on Thursday, March 31st. The Mounties gave up 5 runs in the seventh inning to fall 4-5 to the Falcons. The Mounties look to bounce back today against Long Beach @ 3pm. Their next home game is Thursday, April 7th at 3pm against Compton.
The Mounties are tied with Cerritos for the top spot in the South Coast Conference with only 3 weeks left in the regular season. Softball on HOT streak

The Mounties are currently on an 18 game winning streak with some tough contests coming up in the second half of the season. (San Marcos, CA) With 2 wins over Pacific Coast Conference leader, Palomar College, Head Softball Coach Kelly Ford reached 400 wins. The Mounties visited Palomar College this Saturday for a double header. After spoiling a comeback run by Palomar in the 1st game (7-5, 8 innings) the Mounties glided by the Comets in the 2nd game (11-1).
