November 8, 2008

Men's Water Polo Championship Picture

The Mountie Men's Water Polo Team has placed in the top eight at the State Championships in 7 of the last 8 years, but the conference championship has always eluded the team until this past Saturday, when the team defeated top seeded Long Beach City College, 9-7, to win the 2008 South Coast Conference Championship. Head Coach Marc Ruh, who has steadily improved the Mt. SAC Aquatics Program since his arrival 14 years ago, lead the team to a 3 game sweep of SCC opponents with wins over L.A. Trade Tech (25-3) and second seeded, Cerritos College (8-7).

In the championship game against Long Beach, the Mounties were led by Shane Hurter (three goals), Ryan Allred (two goals) and William Brown (two goals). Goalie Terrance Tsai had 17 saves for the Mounties. The Mounties are currently ranked #6 in the state and #5 in the Southern California polls. The Mounties will next move on to the Southern California Men's Water Polo Championships where they have received a bye in the first round and will take on Grossmont on Friday (11/14/08) at 10:15 am at the Golden West College Aquatic Center.

Congratulations to Head Coach Marc Ruh and his staff! For more information on the team, please visit the Men's Water Polo Water Website at: http://athletics.mtsac.edu/teams/polom

Mt. SAC Aquatic Facility Named Top Community College Aquatic Facility
January 16, 2008
The Mt. SAC Aquatic Facility was named the top Community College Aquatic Facility in the nation by the United States Water Fitness Association. Against all of the Aquatics Facilities in the nation, Mt. SAC was ranked #8. Last year the Mt. SAC Marie T. Mills Aquatic Facility was named top aquatics program in the State of California in 2006. These awards are based on the aquatics programs offered at facilities, number of participants involved in each program, the success of each of program, events held at the facility, participants involved in those events, amount of fund-raising, qualifications of the staff, and number of staff/volunteers in the program.

"This is a great honor to have earned this distinction," replies Aquatics Director, Marc Ruh. "We are grateful to have such great support from the Mt. SAC Administration which has allowed us to achieve so much with this program."

Congratulations to Head Coach Marc Ruh, Head Coach Chris Jackson and their staff.
