(Hanford, CA) Sophomore Arica Rodriguez (La Serna H.S., Whittier, CA) finished in a tie for seventh place at the 2011 California State Community College Women's Golf Championships, which were held at the Kings Country Club in Hanford, California. Rodriguez shot a 171 for the 36 hole tournament. After shooting a phenomenal first round of 78, she shot an 83 today to finish in a tie for seventh place.

Congratulations to Arica and Head Coach Mike Green for an outstanding 2011 Women's Golf Season.

Red ArrowFormer Mountie Women's Golfer, Nina Rodriguez, Gets Her "Big Break"

(Walnut, CA) Former Mt. SAC Women's Golfer, Nina Rodriguez, will get her "Big Break" on the Golf Channels long running reality/game show series, "Big Break Ireland." Rodriguez, a late bloomer, took up competitive golf at Mt. SAC and excelled quickly under the watchful eyes of legendary former Head Coach, Stan Gonta (PGA Professional) and former Head Coach, Kim Melrose. She helped the Mounties capture state championships in 2004 and 2005, as well capturing the 2005 Southern California Individual Championship. She went on to compete for the mighty San Jose State Women's Golf Program.

The show will feature 6 men and 6 women who will compete in a variety of matches and competitions at the K Club (Kildare, Ireland) to see who will be the overall winner. A contestant will be eliminated one by one until one golfer remains who will receive a cash prize, equipment contracts and 2 exemptions into one of three major tours (LPGA, European Tour, Ladies European Tour).

The show will air on the Golf Channel over ten weeks, starting on September 20th.

arrowArica Rodriguez named Mt. SAC Fall Athlete of the Year

(Walnut, CA) Football Quarterback, Nick Lamaison, Soccer Midfielder, Adrian Padilla and Women's Golfer, Arica Rodrigez were named Fall Athletes of the Year, by the Mt. SAC Athletic Department.

Rodriguez, a freshman out of La Serna High School (Whittier, CA), placed sixth at the 2010 California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Golf Championships. A 4.0 student/athlete, she was named to All-Conference and All-State First Teams.

Padilla, a sophomore midfielder out of West Covina High School, led the Mounties to their second consecutive onference, regional and state championship this past season. A defensive specialist and team captain, he was named to the South Coast Conference, NSCAA All-Far West and NSCAA All-American First Teams.

Lamaison, a sophomore out of South Hills High School (West Covina, CA), led the Mounties to an undefeated season (13-0) and their second consecutive State and National Championship. He was named to the All-Conference, All-State and All-American First Teams. The MVP of all three post season contests (National Bowl, So Cal Championship, State Championship), Lamaison will leave Mt. SAC as the all-time leading passer and will be guiding the offense of the University of Texas-El Paso next season.

(Chino, CA) Freshman Golfer, Arica Rodriguez (La Serna H.S., Whittier, CA) placed sixth at the 2010 California Community College Athletic Association Women's Golf Championships which were held on November 15th and 16th at the Los Serranos Golf Course in Chino Hills (CA). Rodriguez shot a 79 in the first round on Monday and came back to shoot a 77 in the second round to take 6th place and All-State Honors (top six finishers).

"Arica has improved so much this season!," replied Head Coach, Mike Green. "She's a great leader and has a very bright future next year at Mt. SAC and in the years to come. "
