Mounties Come Up Short In State Football Championship Game
Early City College of San Francisco lead is too much to overcome for the Mounties
December 10, 2011
(San Francisco, CA) The early 28-0 lead by City College of San Francisco was too much to overcome for the Mountie Football Team who ended up scoring 42 points to the Rams, 52 points. Although the Mounties had many opportunities to win the game, the Rams defense played tough when it mattered, including stopping two Mountie goal line stands. After some adjustments later in the game, the Mounties Offense was a scoring machine, easily scoring 4 touchdowns in the 4th quarter. Unfortunately, the Rams also made some adjustments, scoring 2 touchdowns late in the game (3:53 and 0:41 left in the game) to push them over the top and capture their 6th California Community College Athletic Association Football Championship.
Freshman Linebacker, Julian Gener (Bishop Amat H.S.) was named the CCCAA State Championship Defensive Player of the Game.
The Mounties finish the season with a 11-2 overall record, a conference, National Bowl and Southern California Championship. Congratulations to Conference Coach of the Year, Bob Jastrab, his staff and student/athletes for another outstanding football season.

Former Mt. SAC Quarterback, Anthony Calvillo, Breaks All-Time Professional Football Passing Yardage Record!
October 12, 2011
(Walnut, CA) On Monday, in a game against the Toronto Argonauts, former Mt. SAC Quarterback Anthony Calvillo of the Montreal Allouettes, broke the all-time professional football passing yardage record with a 50 yard touchdown pass that raised his career passing yardage total to 72,429 yards. The veteran quarterback has spent 17 seasons in the Canadian Football League (CFL) where he has become a superstar, capturing 3 Grey Cups (CFL Championship) and 3 CFL Most Outstanding Player awards. Despite taking time off to help his wife battle B-cell lymphoma, battling thyroid cancer himself and then having shoulder surgery, Calvillo keeps getting better with age.
A graduate of La Puente High School, Calvillo played for the Mounties in 1990 and 1991. After two record breaking seasons at quarterback, he went on to start at Utah State for two more years. At Utah State he led the Aggies to their first ever Bowl Game victory in the Las Vegas Bowl and set the school record in total offense and most touchdown passes in a game.
The record surpassed the old record held by former Canadian Football Star, Damon Allen and tops the careers of other great quarterbacks on the top ten list including Brett Favre (71,838 yards), Warren Moon (70,553 yards), Dan Marino (61, 361 yards), Doug Flutie (58,179), Peyton Manning (54, 828 yards) and John Elway (51,475 yards).

One Special Game... No Losers, Just One Winner
October 1, 2011
(Walnut, CA))The matchup between Bakersfield College and Mt. SAC proved to be another hard fought and high intensity game in this competitive rivalry. The difference at this years contest was the outpouring compassion shown by everyone in Hilmer Lodge Stadium for the nights special guest, Mandy Pongs.
Pongs, a former standout softball student/athlete and current volunteer assistant coach for the Mounties, is battling a rare and agressive form of cancer that required a radical hysterectomy and chemotherapy treatments.
To help Pongs with the high costs of cancer treatments, Head Football Coach, Bob Jastrab graciously donated all program proceeds and dedicated the game as Mandy Pongs Night. Along with Jastrab, his parents graciously donated a number of wonderful raffle prizes for a special raffle.
The generosity and compassion didn't stop there and it did not stop with just the Mountie Fans. The Women's Softball Team, who volunteered to help sell programs and raffle tickets, were nearly brought to tears when they received an outpouring of support from the Bakersfield Fans. With about 1,000 people in attendance (both sides), over $2,500 was collected for Pongs.
"In regards to our fans here at Bakersfield College, we do have a special situation. They are great!" stated new Bakersfield Athletic Director, Ryan Beckwith. "Ultimately the support shown to Mandy on Saturday night, from both sides, is why we got into this business to begin with. It truly was an extraordinary event. The compassion shown to Mandy... touched us all."
"I want to thank everyone in attendance at the game for their support of Mandy." replied Mt. SAC Athletics Director, Joe Jennum. "For two teams and two communities competing against each other, to come together to help support this courageous young woman is beyond words. It really puts what is important into perspective."
In the end, the Mounties edged the Renegades, 41-27, however, at this game, there were no losers, only one winner.... Mandy Pongs.
