December 13, 2008
Costa Mesa, CA - The number two ranked Mounties Football Team made it to summit, but could not reach the peak in the State Championship Game against the number one ranked, Butte Roadrunners. The Butte Defense held the Mounties to 9 points, their lowest score all season, to their 17 points. On paper the match-up should have produced a high scoring game, but it turned into a defensive battle on the field. Butte finished their season with an undefeated record of 12-0 and the National Community College Championship. The Mounties finish the season with a record of 12 wins and 2 losses, ranked #2 in the state and #3 in the Nation. arrow Kicker Jacob Harfman Named State Player of the Month
November 13, 2008
For the second month in a row, a Mt. SAC Student/Athlete has been named the State Player of the Month. Kicker Jacob Harfman of the football team was named the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Male Athlete of the Month (all sports), for the month of October. Harfman helped lead the Mounties to a undefeated October and number one ranking with his kicking duties. He has been invaluable on kick offs, punts and field goals. During the three games in October, Harfman compiled amazing statistics including 18 PAT's (18 of 20), 7 Field Goals (6 of 7) and 5 punts. His most incredible stats come from his field goals where he has kicked 52, 53 and 56 yard field goals, the later shattering the Mt. SAC field goal record. On kick-offs, Harfman routinely forces opponents to touch back when asked to kick deep. Against Citrus College, he held the Owls in the end zone with 6 touchbacks during kick-offs. Kevin Craft UCLA arrowFormer Mt. SAC Quarterback, Kevin Craft, Leads UCLA To Upset Victory Over 18th Ranked Tennessee
September 1, 2008
In front of a nationally televised audience, former Mt. SAC Quarterback, Kevin Craft, the 2007 State Offensive Player of the Year and J.C. Gridwire Offensive Player of the Year, led the unranked UCLA Bruins to a thrilling overtime upset victory over 18th ranked Tennessee, 27-24.
The first half proved to be a tough introduction to NCAA Division 1 Football with Craft throwing 4 interceptions, but he came back in the second half with the same tenacity he showed while leading the Mounties last season to the State Championships Game. Craft led the Bruins down the field for 2 touchdown drives and a field goal with his laser precision passing, finishing the second half, 18 for 25 with 193 yards passing and some key scrambles. Highly respected UCLA Defensive Coordinator, Dwayne Walker, who began his coaching career at Mt. SAC (1988-92), kept the Bruins in the entire game with another very strong defensive showing, but it was Craft who led the team in the second half. Craft is the son of Mt. SAC Professor and legendary Offensive Coordinator, Tom Craft. The Bruins will next take on Mountain West Conference powerhouse BYU at Provo (UT) in two weeks.
