Bob Jastrab begins his fifth season as Head Football Coach of the Mounties after another exciting season where the Mounties finished second in the state, capturing the Conference and Southern California Football Championships for the second consecutive year.
The Mounties once again upset an undefeated team on their home turf to win the Southern California Football Championships. This time the victim was College of the Canyons with a come from behind fourth quarter win (51-44). In the state championship game, the Mounties could not produce offense and were held to a score of 9-17, losing to undefeated Northern California Champion, Butte College.
In 2007, the Mounties upset undefeated, Bakersfield College (47-42) in the Southern California Championships and nearly upset City College of San Francisco (31-28) in the State Championship Bowl Game.
In 2006, he led his team to an American Division Championship and finished the season with a victory over Orange Coast College (29-20) in the U.S. Bank Bowl.
After serving 11 years as an Assistant Coach at Mt. San Antonio College, Bob was named Head Coach in 2005. He has held a variety of positions at Mt. SAC, including Associate Head Coach, Offensive Coordinator, Special Teams Coordinator and Offensive/Defensive Line Coach. Bob began his football coaching career in 1989 at Mt. SAC. In 1993, he accepted a graduate assistant position at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). During his tenure with the Rebels, UNLV captured the 1994 Las Vegas Bowl with a win over Central Michigan. After leaving Las Vegas, he became the offensive coordinator at Damascus High School and helped propel them to the 1996 Maryland 3A-State Championship. He returned to Mt. SAC in 1997 and helped the Mounties to an undefeated season, capturing the National and State Community College Football Championships.
Bob prepped at Edgewood High School in West Covina. He played two seasons at Mt. SAC (82-83) as a defensive lineman, earning Mountie of the Year Honors as well as Community College All-American status. He received a scholarship to the University of Miami, Florida (84-85) and was part of a Fiesta and Sugar Bowl team. As a Hurricanes, Bob was exposed to some exceptionally gifted coaches and their successful coaching philosophies including future NFL coaches Jimmy Johnson, Howard Schnellenberger, Gary Stevens and Butch Davis.
Bob graduated with a B.B.A. in Accounting from the University of Miami, Florida and received his Master’s Degree in Kinesiology from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
Bob has been a full-time Professor of Physical Education at Mt. SAC since 2000, is an avid golfer and loves to travel. He lives in La Verne with his lovely wife Barbara and their two young sons, Joshua and Sean.
