2008 will mark 4 decades of Mt. SAC Track and Field involvement with longtime Assistant Track Coach, Dr. Ernie Gregoire. "Dr. G" as he is affectionately known, is one of the most respected coaches in all of Track and Field.
Through the years he has served not only Mt. SAC, but the United States in many capacities including 2000 US Olympic Coach, 1993 Head Coach US World Championship Team, 2006 Head Coach US World Championship Team and as a staff member of numerous national teams.
Dr. G has worked with many of track and fields greatest athletes including 4 time Olympian and Olympic Long Jump Bronze Medalist, Larry Myricks (28'08"1/4-8.74m, the fifth best long jump in history). He also has helped guide the careers of 4 time NCAA Division 1 100 Meter Champion; Angela Williams, US indoor 60 Meter Champion, Angela Daigle and California Community College Hall of Fame Member and American Community College Record Holder, Zelda Johnson-Bolden (11.23-100M).
Currently, Dr. Gregoire works with the Mt. SAC Horizontal Jumpers (long jump, triple jump) where he has produced 30 California Community College State Champions (17 in the horizontal jumps and 13 in the sprints). He also continues to work with elite athletes in his Cheetahs Track and Field Club.
Prior to arriving at Mt. SAC, Dr. G was a teacher/coach at De Anza Middle School in Ontario, Alta Loma High School and Ontario High School. He began his career at Mt. SAC in 1968 as full time professor/coach. A year later he was later promoted to Coordinator of Student Activities (1969-1973). In 1973 he was promoted once again to Dean of Special Student Services where he served until his retirement in 1996.
Gregoire enjoys spending time with family and traveling with his elite group of athletes around the world.
Gregoire resides in Walnut, with his beautiful wife, Jean, a former school principal. The have 3 grown children, 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
