Deb Blackmore, Dean/Athletic Director at Mt. San Antonio College (Mt. SAC) has been part of the Mt. SAC Family for over 30 years. She is one of the most respected Athletic Directors among her peers and her faculty/staff. A former Mt. SAC Student/Athlete, Deb was an outstanding athlete competing in field hockey, volleyball, basketball, softball and gymnastics.
In 1973, after completing her B.S. and M.S. in Physical Education at California State Polytechnic University in Pomona, Deb became a full-time Professor and Coach at Mt. SAC. She has coached various sports including volleyball, field hockey, soccer, basketball and softball. During her successful coaching career, Deb was named California Community College Coach of the Year in field hockey and received the South Coast Conference Coach of the Year Award in both field hockey and soccer.
During her teaching tenure, Deb was the Coordinator of Mt. SAC’s Fire Science Agility Testing Program and was the liaison between Mt. San Antonio College and area Fire Departments.
In 1998, Deb was named Associate Dean of Physical Education and Associate Athletic Director at Mt. SAC. In July of 2003, Deb was named Interim Dean and Athletic Director and in June of 2004 she was promoted as the Dean and Athletic Director at Mt. SAC.
Deb was named the 2004 California State Community College Administrator of the Year by the State Community of Physical Educators. She is very active at the state level in the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA, governing body of state community college athletics). She has served in many capacities including on the CCCAA Management Council as well as State Representative for Men’s and Women’s Volleyball. At the Conference level, Deb has served as the South Coast Conference (SCC) Men’s & Women’s Water Polo Representative and as a member of the SCC Scholarship Committee.
In 2006, Deb was awarded the Manager of the Year Award by the Mt. SAC Faculty Association. 2006 also marked the 3rd time, the Athletic Department captured 2nd place honors for the Pepsi NATTYCA Cup, recognizing the top community college athletic programs in the nation. In 2007, Deb was named the 2007 NISOD Excellence Award Winner. In 2008, she was named an "Inspiring Woman of Mt. SAC" by her peers for her outstanding leadership, inspirational battle against breast cancer and for being a positive role model for women.
Deb leads one of the largest divisions on campus which includes the Departments of Physical Education, Athletics and Dance. The Division also includes the areas of Athletic Special Events and the Exercise Science Wellness Center. The PE and Dance Department offer over 200 classes a semester and the Championship Winning Athletic Department fields over 20 sports. The “World Famous” Mt. SAC Athletic Special Events annually host over 100,000 athletes, coaches and spectators and includes the Mt. SAC Relays, the Mt. SAC Cross Country Invitational, the Footlocker Western Regional Cross Country Championships and the Amateur Athletic Foundation of Los Angeles (AAF) Youth Days Track and Field Program which is the original and longest continuous grant of the AAF.
In her spare time Deb enjoys listening to jazz music, traveling, golfing and spending time with her Labrador Retriever Molly.
