arrow#1 Ranked Football Team Will Host Pierce College in the Southern California Bowl
November 16, 2009
For the 2nd consecutive year, Head Coach Bob Jastrab will lead the Mounties into the Southern California Community College Play-Offs and the Southern California Bowl. This year the Mounties enter the play-offs as the #1 seed among the 8 teams selected to the Southern California Play-Offs. The Mounties will take on #8 seed, Pierce College (7-3) this Saturday, November 21st at 6 pm, here at Hilmer Lodge Stadium. Pierce College captured the 2009 American Pacific Conference Championship with a conference record of 6-1, while the Mounties captured their 3rd consecutive conference championship with an undefeated conference record of 6-0.

Presale tickets for this weekends Southern California Bowl, may be purchased, until this Friday at 5 pm, at the Performing Arts Center Box Office (Box office hours are 12 noon to 5 pm) for $8 for Adults, $5 for Children, Seniors and Students. Game Day Tickets may be purchaed at the stadium box office for $10 for Adults, $6 for Children, Seniors and Students.

arrowMen's Soccer Captures 2009 South Coast Conference Championship

Congratulations to Head Coach Juan Sanchez and the 2009 Mt. SAC Men's Soccer Team who captured the 2009 South Coast Conference Championship.
They finish the season with a record of 16 wins, 1 loss and 3 ties and a conference record of 11-1-2. Sanchez has led the Mounties to the play-offs in each of his eight seasons and has reached the state championships in 4 out of 7 seasons. The Mounties are currently the #1 ranked team in the state and have received a bye in the first round of the Men's Soccer Southern California Play-Offs. The will face the winner of the Oxnard (#7) and Moorpark (#10) on Tuesday, November 24 at 4:00 pm here at Mt. SAC.

arrowMen's Water Polo Upsets Cerritos College in So Cal Regional Play-Offs

The number 9 seeded, Mt. SAC Men's Water Polo Team easily defeated the #8 ranked Cerritos College, 10-5 in first round Southern California Regional Water Polo Championship action at the Pasadena City College (PCC) Aquatic Center. Brendan Cheng led the Mounties with 4 goals and Goalkeeper Kevin Huang produced 14 saves. The Mounties advance to the second round and will take on
#1 seed, Golden West at 11:30 am at the PCC Aquatic Center.

arrowMt. SAC Football Slays Another Undefeated And Number One Ranked Team!
November 7, 2009

For the second week in a row, the Mounties have taken down a number one ranked and undefeated team. A blocked PAT by Mt. SAC in overtime lifted Mt. SAC to a 27-26 National Central Conference victory over previously undefeated and number one ranked Cerritos (8-1, 4-1) at Mt. SAC. Mt. SAC's Matt Faulkner threw for 207 yards and one touchdown on 22-of-40 passing for the Mounties. Lancer Iosefa led the Mounties with 61 yards rushing on 12 carries. Kolby Arendse (nine carries, 44 yards) scored Mt. SAC's touchdown in overtime, a three-yard run. Jesse Canada had nine receptions for 78 yards and a touchdown for the Mounties.

arrowMt. SAC Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams Sweep the South Coast Conference Championship Titles and Coach of the Year Honors

Both the Mounties Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams captured the 2009 South Coast Conference (SCC) Cross Championship at Whittier Narrows Regional Park on Friday, October 20, 2009. For Head Coach Mike Goff and the Men's Cross Country Team, this is their third consecutive SCC Championship. The Mountie Men had a strong performance with their top 5 runners all placing in the top 15 of the race. Freshman Chris Rivera (4th place overall) and Sophomore Sean Whitesitt (6th place) led the way for the Mounties. This marks the 9th SCC Championship for Goff, who has dominated Men's Cross Country in the South Coast Conference since his arrival to Mt. SAC in 1997. Goff was also named the 2009 SCC Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year

The Mountie Women had an even stronger showing with their top 5 runners all placing wihtin the top 8 of the race. The team easily defeated second place rival L.A. Trade Tech, 23 to 64 (low point score wins in cross country). South Coast Conference Cross Country Athlete of the Year, Lenore Moreno led the Mounties, capturing the South Coast Conference Individual Championship with a time of 18:39 over the 5 kilometer course. Freshman Mallory Celaya added to the Mt. SAC dominance with a strong second place finish behind Moreno. Head Coach Doug Todd was named the 2009 SCC Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year.

Nick Lamaison-Quarterback

arrowFirst Team All-American Quarterback Nick Lamaison Heading To Tennessee To Play For The Volunteers
July 24, 2009
Walnut, CA-First Team All-American, team leader and Mt. SAC Quarterback Nick Lamaison has signed a letter of intent and has received a full-scholarship to play this season for the Tennessee Volunteers. Last season as a freshman, Lamaison led the Mounties to a Conference and Southern California Championship. "We will truly miss Nick, however we are excited for him and his opportunity to play and challenge for the starting job at Tennessee", replies Offensive Coordinator, Tom Craft. "Had he stayed for another season with us, he would have challenged many of the all-time community college records." Lamaison finishes his Mountie career with 3,479 yards of passing, 36 touchdowns and a passing efficiency of 166.5.

The Mounties have a number of great quarterbacks who will challenge for the starting quarterback slot including Sophomore Tyler Vanderzee who did a fantastic job leading the Mounties to victory in the play-offs during Lamaison's injury. Along with Vanderzee, Matt Faulkner (Highland Village, TX) a red shirt transfer from Fresno State University will be aiming for the starting job.

Andy Paulin-Athletic Trainer

arrowAthletic Trainer, Andy Paulin Named 2009 NATA Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer

San Antonio, TX-The National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) has awarded Mt. SAC Athletic Trainer, Andy Paulin the 2009 Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award. This award is given each year to a Certified Athletic Trainer who has given a lifelong dedication to the NATA and the field of athletic training on the national, district and local levels. Paulin has served for over 30 years in numerous capacities including supporting the Mt. SAC Athletic Program, teaching Athletic Training, serving as District 8 Director and serving on numerous national team medical staffs. In April of 2009, he was inducted into the NATA District 8 Hall of Fame for his outstanding and dedicated work in the field of Athletic Training.

arrowAllen Caveness Hired As Full-Time Professor and Head Men's Basketball Coach
June 24, 2009
Walnut, CA-Former Fullerton College Head Coach, Allen Caveness, has been named full-time Professor of Physical Education and Head Men's Basketball Coach. Caveness joins the Mounties after leading Fullerton College for the past two seasons as Head Coach. "We are excited to welcome Allen Caveness to the Mt. SAC Family. He is an extremely successful and proven Community College Coach and Professor," states Athletic Director, Deborah Blackmore.

Last season, he lead the Hornets to a 18-11 record, capturing his second consecutive Orange Empire Conference Championship and his fourth consecutive appearance in post season play. Prior to arriving at Fullerton, Caveness the 2008 Orange Empire Conference Coach of the Year and 2007 South Coast Conference Coach of the Year, served as Head Coach at Compton College and Assistant Coach at Oxnard College and El Camino College.

Sacramento, CA-The Mt. SAC Athletics Program was named the 2008-09 NATYCAA Cup Champion which is presented by the National Alliance of Two Year Collegiate Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA). The award recognizes the premier overall community college athletic programs in the country. Mt. SAC finished the 08-09 year with 168.5 points, narrowly edging out conference rival, Cerritos College, by a half a point. In the six years of NATTYCA Cup existence, Mt. SAC has finished strong in the point standings each year, never finishing lower than sixth place with 3 second, one fourth and one sixth place finish. This year the Mounties had strong post season finishes in Men's Cross Country, Women's Cross Country, Football, Men's Soccer, Women's Soccer, Men's Wrestling, Women's Basketball, Women's Softball (State Champions), Men's Track and Field, and Women's Track & Field.
